KIN was founded by co-owner Thanaphorn “Fair” Khusawangsri, who previously operated a Japanese food cart near South Waterfront. The food cart gave her the opportunity to introduced her take on Japanese comfort food with the local community and connecting with customers on a more personal level.

After closing the food cart, Fair began looking for an opportunity to create something more permanent, something that could offer not only Japanese food, but the atmosphere and experience that she had always loved about Japanese dining culture. When an opportunity arose in downtown Lake Oswego, she saw the perfect place to bring that vision to life.

The transition from a food cart to a brick-and-mortar restaurant represents an exciting new chapter, but Fair’s vision remains the same: to serve good food and to create a place where people feel welcome.
